Birthday/ Easter Cake

Thursday, 31 March 2016

Hey guys,

So last week it was Nia's birthday so we decided to make a birthday cake together to celebrate. This cake that we made can be made for Easter or any occasion near this time. It is a super easy but fun cake to make and when it is done it looks so effective. We both love baking so we thought it was a great opportunity to make the most having an excuse to do some baking. We try to make birthday cakes every year for our birthday so it has now become a tradition rather than buying one from the shop. Therefore we thought it would be nice this year to share it with you.

Ingredients for the Victoria Sandwich:
100g Margarine
100g Caster Sugar
2 Medium Eggs
100g Self Raising Flour
A couple of drops of Vanilla Extract

Ingredients for the butter icing:
100g Margarine
200g Sieved Icing Sugar
Two table spoons of Milk
A couple of drops of Vanilla Extract

Strawberry or Raspberry Jam

3 bags of Cadbury Mini Eggs
1 packet of Milk Chocolate Fingers
1 packet of White Chocolate Fingers

Method
Preheat the oven to 180oC, 350oF or Gas Mark 4
Grease an 18cm sandwich tin- so that the cake does not stick to the tin once it is cooked
In a bowl cream the margarine and sugar until light and fluffy
Beat in the eggs one at a time, adding a little bit of the sieved flour with each
Gently fold in the rest of the sieved flour
Add a couple of drops of vanilla extract
Place this mixture into the prepared tins and bake for 20-25 minutes in 2 tins or 40-45 minutes in one tin
When the cake has finished cooking pierce it with a knife or a cake tester to check that it has been fully cooked, this can be seen if no mixture is transferred onto the utensil

While the sponge is cooling prepare the butter icing to go inside and around the sponge
Cream the margarine and the sieved icing sugar together
Add two table spoons of milk
Add a couple of vanilla extract into the icing to give it some flavour

If the sponge is cooked in one tin then once it is cool take it out of the tin and cut it in the middle to that there are two halves of the sponge to make the Victoria sandwich.
Once the two parts of the sponges are cool add jam onto one half then add butter icing onto the other side
Once this was done put these sides together to make the sandwich
With the rest of the butter icing add this around the sandwich and to the top of it
After all of the butter icing is added to the cake cut the chocolate fingers in half so that they suit the size of the cake. Once they are cut add these chocolate fingers using alternate colours
After add the mini eggs to the top of the cake so that they are in circles that work into the middle of the cake

We hope that you are able to try to make this cake and enjoy making and eating it as much as we did, enjoy!

Party

Tuesday, 1 March 2016

Last night we went to our friends 18th birthday party which was held in a club called The Venue in our home town. As you can tell from the photos it was a fancy dress party and we decided (of course) to go as Disney characters. I went as Minnie Mouse and Nia went as Snow White. Unfortunately we were the youngest ones at the party so we didn't get served - we had an amazing night though! For the whole party look we both decided to go for a natural kind of make-up look.

For my look i used the Dior Forever foundation - which is one of my favourites - and used the Dior Backstage Pro Fix It concealer. For my brows i used the Mac eyebrow pencil in shade Spiked. Moving on to the eyes, i used my They're Real mascara by Benefit, Maybelline Master Precise Eye Liner and Soap and Glory's Perfect 10 eye palette. To finish off the look i used my Rimmel Starry Eyed Lipstick.

For my look I used Barry M Flawless Matte Finish Foundation in the shade nude, in the same shade I used Barry M concealer. I also used a lighter shade of comcealer which was Ivory Barry M this was so that I could hide my dark circles. To set this look I used collection pressed powder in transparent, I used Maybelline Face Master sculpt in light/medium, Soap and Glory Love At First Blush. Then for my eyes I used Clinique High Impact Mascara, Maybelline Master Precise Eye Liner and Soap and Glory's Perfect 10 eye palette. To finish it off I used a Pure Colour Rich Red Lip Liner (found in our previous blog post) and Miss Sporty's High Red lipstick.
